MODULE 3: PATTERN VS SURFACE

Introduction

In Module 3, we learned the relationship between pattern and surface and how they contribute to visual perception. In addition, we learn about the significance of developable surfaces and fabrication. Also, we learned how to use Rhino and relevant Paneling Tools to design our artefacts from a given terrain.

Step 1:
Creating Artefact 1

For Artefact 1, we focussed on and shadow and light in our fabric sample. We designed panels which suited the conditions of the terrain with reference to the fabric sample.

Step 2:
Creating Artefact 2

For Artefact 2, we manipulated the base grid to mimic localised formal conditions of the fabric sample using relevant commands.

Step 3:
Creating Artefact 3

For Artefact 3, we manipulated our panelled designs based to mimic localised edge conditions present in the fabric sample.

Step 4:
Creating Composite Drappery

Step 4:
Creating Composite Drappery

For the composite drappery, we created a hybrid of the fabric sample. We explored the relationship between the artefacts we created and the original fabric sample.
